I’ve always loved reading quotes. I have several of them written on sticky notes all over my desk. Some of my favorites are the money quotes below. They remind me of what’s most important in life and help keep me humble. Hopefully you find some enjoyment from reading them too!
“Money has never made man happy, nor will it, there is nothing in its nature to produce happiness. The more of it one has the more one wants.” Benjamin Franklin
I love this quote by Ben Franklin, especially the last line. It does seem like one of the most difficult things to attain in life is contentment with where we are. In most cases, it is good to continue to strive and better yourself. It’s good to want promotions or to increase your business income from month to month. However, in terms of money, it seems like people are rarely happy with what they have; they always want more. Mr. Franklin reminds us that no matter how much we have, it can never truly produce happiness. That has to come from within.
“Money is power, freedom, a cushion, the root of all evil, the sum of blessings.” Carl Sandburg
This quote by Sandburg really captures the complexities of money. It can bring so much joy and so much pain. It can bring feelings of relief and intense anxiety. It can be a big blessing or a huge curse. This quote illustrates that money is a finicky thing. In order to appreciate it and handle it well, we have to be responsible with it.
“What difference does it make how much you have? What you do not have amounts to much more.” Seneca
Seneca is so wise. This quote reminds us that even the wealthiest people in the world can only have so much. It’s impossible for one person to own all of the riches the world has to offer. I also like that it reminds people not to get too caught up in what they have and not to brag about it. It makes no difference what anyone has, just like Seneca says. What does matter is how well you’ve lived your life.
“The art is not in making money, but in keeping it.” Proverb
This is so true! Lots and lots of people can make money in a variety of different ways through a variety of different professions. However the real challenge is in saving and keeping it, especially with all the temptations around us!
“Formal education will make you a living; self-education will make you a fortune.” Jim Rohn
In a world where students have massive amounts of debt, this is a great reminder. Sometimes, we don’t have to go to the fanciest schools and take out the biggest chunks of money. Often, we can learn through our own experiences and our own efforts. Most of the time, those lessons are so much more relevant and “rich” than anything you can learn in school.
