Just about everyone knows that exercise is great for the mind, body, and spirit. The problem is finding the time to complete it. The truth of the matter is that the financial incentives of staying healthy are even better than just looking fit (although that certainly doesn’t hurt). If you exercise regularly and eat your fruits and vegetables, there is a very good chance you are going to save thousands if not more on healthcare costs in the future.
One of my guilty pleasures I have to admit is a good hamburger from a fast food restaurant. I love to buy one after a long day’s work and enjoy in my car (don’t judge me). I, of course, started feeling sick soon after that last bite and I just figured that it was the grease. I later found out that doing regular exercise helps the body get rid of wastes and toxins that can otherwise clog the body. Since I knew I had a habit of consuming unhealthy food, I began to move my lazy butt and began running in my apartment complex almost everyday. I immediately began noticing a difference.
I have been running every day and have been feeling the great benefits of exercise ever since. One of the other fabulous benefits is the mental health attributes to moving your body. I am someone who has seen a therapist on and off for personal reasons. I am happy to report that starting my running regime has decreased my need for a therapist which saves a couple of hundred dollars every month for me. This does not even count the countless amounts of money that it can potentially save since exercise is one the greatest ways to prevent disease in the future.
Many people think that exercise has to be a very expensive thing. Many people spend thousands of dollars just on exercise equipment for their home. The truth of the matter is that burning calories and improving your health is as simple as stepping out your door and moving. You can certainly join a fancy gym, but it is not necessary. Join a walking club in your area. Look online for people selling exercise equipment for cheap. Make a habit of taking the stairs every time instead of using the elevator. As long as you are moving and being active, then you are making your way to better health and potentially saving yourself thousands of dollars in healthcare bills later down the road. Putting in the effort today will be hugely beneficial tomorrow.
Everyone talks about taking care of their financial health by taking care of their economic portfolios. The truth of the matter is that taking care of your health is just as important. You want to make sure you live to see the fruit of your efforts. It can also be a great way to connect with family and friends as well if you can all exercise together. So get out and get moving! There is no better time than now to put yourself on the path to a better self and well-being.- Natalie Alex
